Competing Polls: Coats in the Lead?

By Hoosier Advocate | April 19, 2010

The recent statewide poll for the Republican primary for U.S. Senate which was first reported here drew quite a bit of state and national attention. Now a member of the Dan Coats campaign is calling its legitimacy into question and showed Hoosier Advocate its own internal polling showing the former Senator well ahead of all challengers. In fact, the campaign strategist (who wished to remain anonymous) suggested that the Coats team is so confident – and the numbers would certainly justify it – that the Coats team is saving money to use after the primary in its general election campaign with presumptive nominee Brad Ellsworth.

So which poll is accurate? We’re not sure. These are two competing statewide polls that both feature likely primary voters. The poll predicting a Coats victory is certainly plausible, especially since the activist, tea party wing of the party has divided its vote among several candidates. Ultimately we will have to wait until May 4th to find out.

So the news here is a member of Coats staff, who won’t be named, showed “numbers” none of which you report here, to you showing he is “well ahead.”

If you’re reporting this as news shouldn’t you at least define “well ahead.” Are you trying to report news here or create it?
